The objective of this law is to regulate the migratory movement in Panama. This means, to regulate the entrance and exit of nationals and foreigners in Panamanian territory.

This same law is in charge of establishing the requirements and procedures to obtain Panamanian citizenship, creating the National Immigration Service and the Migratory Career. The National Immigration Service is a public institution of security, administration, control, supervision and implementation of immigration policies issued by the Executive Branch of Panamá.
